Marcus Cattani


Director (ex-officio)

Marcus has been at Edith Cowan University in Western Australia since 2015, and previously he has worked in leadership roles and occupational hygiene roles in the mining and engineering industries, and as a small business owner. He has a long association with the Institute starting in the mid-1990’s editing the magazine and on the WA Branch Committee including as WA Safety Symposium organiser, and Chair of the WA Branch.

His role at ECU includes teaching writing learning materials in risk management, management systems and leadership. He supervises ~10 PhD research projects in diverse topics, all of which contribute to managing injury risk to an acceptable level.

Marcus is a deputy Director of the ECU MARS Research Centre, which focuses on researching solutions to some of the modern challenges in the mining industry.  He is a core member of the International Sampler Comparison Group which aims to improve exposure assessment techniques, a member of a research group based in Adelaide University which investigates Climate Change and OHS. Marcus is a member of the CME (WA) OHS Committee, the CCI WHS Forum, the WorkSafe WA Commissioners Agriculture Safety Advisory Committee.

At the core of Marcus’s teaching and research is the development of ideas, initiatives and academic papers which aim to prevent harm in the workplace.
